Job Description:
The Town of Poncha Springs is seeking qualified and community-minded individuals to serve on the Poncha Springs Board of Trustees. This is an appointed position to fill a current vacancy on the Board. The individual appointed will serve until the next regular municipal election in November 2026, at which time the seat will be placed on the ballot for election.
About the Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Town of Poncha Springs. The Board is responsible for establishing policies, adopting ordinances and resolutions, approving the Town budget, setting strategic direction, and providing oversight of municipal operations. Trustees serve the community by representing residents’ interests and helping guide the Town’s growth, services, and long-term planning.
Term of Appointment
•This is an appointment to fill an unexpired term.
•The appointed Trustee will serve until the November 2026 municipal election.
•The individual elected in November 2026 will then serve the remainder of the term (if applicable under Town Charter or state law).
Key Responsibilities
•Attend and actively participate in regular Board meetings (typically held monthly) and any special meetings or work sessions.
•Review meeting materials, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and financial documents in preparation for meetings.
•Vote on matters concerning municipal policy, land use, budgeting, infrastructure, and community services.
•Represent the Town in a professional and ethical manner.
•Serve on committees or represent the Town on boards and commissions as assigned.
•Comply with all applicable state statutes, Town ordinances, and ethical standards.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the qualifications required by Colorado law and Town code, including:
•Be a registered elector.
•Have resided within the Town of Poncha Springs for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding appointment.
•Be at least 18 years of age.
A commitment to respectful collaboration, transparency, and thoughtful decision-making is essential.
Time Commitment
Board meetings are generally held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., with additional work sessions or committee meetings as needed. Trustees should expect 3-5 hours per month for meeting preparation and community engagement.
Compensation
Trustees are paid $300 per month, but must attend regular meetings to receive compensation.
