Wage: $22.50/hr.

Location: Buena Vista, CO.

Job Description:

Position Purpose:
The mission of the Buena Vista School District is to ensure every student reaches the peak of success. To that end all departments and individuals strive to fulfill our mission. The Early School Lead Teacher works in synch with program goals to take the lead in planning, organizing and implementing an individualized, developmentally appropriate early childhood program for the children enrolled in the BVSD's Preschool Program.

Organizational Relationship:
The Early School Lead Teacher reports directly to the Early Childhood Director

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with other lead teachers and program staff to incorporate program goals.
  • Effectively lead the teaching team in a preschool classroom in order to achieve classroom and program goals.
  • Plan and implement an individualized curriculum, including goals/objectives for students with and IEP, under the direction of the Early Childhood Director and in collaboration with the other lead teachers.
  • Plan and prepare the learning environment, setting up interest centers and preparing the needed materials and supplies
  • Assist students with personal care, social skills, or self-awareness skills
  • Participate in staff training
  • Implement program philosophies, principles and goals
  • Observe and accurately assess students using the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool.
  • Attend Teacher Visits (2 per year) and Family Meetings (2 per year)
  • Select and use behavioral techniques and methods appropriate to student's circumstances. Utilize a positive behavior model in monitoring behavior.
  • Work with children in small group, large group, circle and outdoor time. Provide opportunities for students to assume responsibility and develop independence
  • Keep all equipment and supplies in clean, safe, working order
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, food programs, etc. as required by the school district, state licensing and other requirements as directed by the Early Childhood Director
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Model and teach table manners in a family style snack and lunch environment

 Education, Experience and Skills required:

  • Bachelor degree in Early Childhood preferred or a minimum of a Level II in the Professional Development Information System (PDIS) of Colorado Shines. May make exceptions for experience or other qualifications as determined by Colorado State Licensing Rules and Regulations,
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Strong knowledge of child development
  • Obtain required certifications within 30 days of hire

 Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Ability to speak clearly, sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, crawl, twist, climb, lift and push up to 50 pounds and be exposed to contagious disease and loud noise

 Qualifications Profile
Previous experience working in early childhood, a plus.

FLSA Status:             Nonexempt 
178-days based on annual academic calendar
Base pay starting at $22.50/hour (placement on the Preschool Lead Teacher pay scale dependent on experience)
Include benefits based on Administrative Policy
