Job Type: Full time, Salaried

Wage: $48.638-$104,233/yr.

Location: Leadville, CO.

Job Description:

The primary purpose of this role is to create a classroom where students feel challenged, supported, and able to grow through consistent, effective instruction. The teacher plans lessons aligned to standards, builds a calm and focused learning environment, and uses assessment to understand student progress and guide next steps. The teacher for this position provides instruction in special education and works closely with students, families, and colleagues to support both academic and personal growth. This position is scheduled to work with 6th-8th grade.

 

Position Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Instruction and Learning


  • Plan and deliver lessons that utilize the Board of Education adopted curriculum, meet grade level state standards, and reflect the needs of diverse learners. 
  • Use a range of instructional strategies, including inquiry-based learning, discussion, modeling, small-group instruction, and guided practice. 
  • Adapt instruction and materials to support students with varying readiness levels, interests, and learning needs.
  • Use instructional time effectively by designing lessons with clear purpose, aligned tasks, and routines that keep students engaged in meaningful learning.

IEP Compliance and Process


  • Collaborates with classroom teachers on implementation of IEP for all learners on their caseload.
  • Collaborates with other service providers for all learners on their caseload. 
  • Hold and facilitate all IEP meetings for all learners on their caseload. 
  • Participate and collaborate with the MTSS process, prior to special education recommendation.
  • Conduct all assessments required with determining student special education eligibility.
  • Develop and maintain all IEP related documentation for all learners on their caseload.


Classroom Culture


  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior to ensure a calm, safe, and productive learning environment where students are active in their learning, engaged in grade-level tasks that connect to clear learning targets and require reasoning and application, and follow routines that support academic growth.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families that combine high expectations with consistent support.
  • Maintain a well-organized classroom environment with resources and materials that support both learning and instruction.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring


  • Assess students' growth using formative and summative measures. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress in accordance with the LCHS Grading Policy. 
  • Administer state and district assessments as required. 

Communication and Collaboration


  • Communicate regularly with families to discuss student progress and share information about student progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and address student needs, including academic, behavior, and social emotional. 
  • Participate in curriculum development, schoolwide initiatives, committees, and student activities. 
  • Partner with administrators in the evaluation and professional growth process. 

Professional Responsibilities 


  • Engage in ongoing professional learning to strengthen instructional practice.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties and activities.
  • Follow LCHS common classroom procedures and apply the school’s Vision for Instruction in planning, instruction, and collaboration. Vision for Instruction is being developed for implementation in the 26-27 school year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university 
  • Current Colorado teaching license for Special Education (or actively enrolled in alternative licensure program). 
  • A strong commitment to serving the unique strengths, needs, and aspirations of Lake County students.
  • Bilingual Spanish is preferred, and not necessary for hiring.
