Job Type: Full time, Hourly

Wage: $28.85-$32.50/hr.

Location: Buena Vista, CO.

Job Description:

Performs scheduling and supervision of, and assistance with the daily and routine maintenance and operation of all municipal parks, playgrounds, buildings and grounds, gardens, annual planters and street trees owned and under the control of the Town of Buena Vista.

JOB DUTIES The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required. • Performs daily operation duties, repairs and maintains parks, playgrounds, buildings and grounds.

• Supervises and assists with landscaping of parks and around municipal buildings.

• Operates heavy equipment, including snow removal equipment.

• Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment used by the Parks employees.

• Maintains an inventory of all park and playground equipment.

• Performs playground equipment safety inspections and performs necessary repairs.

• Supervises and assists with planting and maintenance of street trees.

• Supervises and assists with annual planters and flowerbeds.

• Assists with record keeping, purchasing, and inventory monitoring of equipment and supplies.

• Assists with snow shoveling.

• May be required to perform street maintenance.

• Perform other duties as assigned and required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead accountability for full-time year-round and seasonal Parks employees; includes scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work, instruction/training in work methods, and providing input into disciplinary action. May be required to supervise community service workers

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

• Principles, methods materials, and equipment common to the operations of parks, grounds, and building maintenance.

• Familiarity with and working knowledge of the language, methods, materials, and equipment common to maintenance of municipal parks, playgrounds, buildings, and grounds.

• Safe working practices and procedures such as defensive driving, traffic control, correct body mechanics, and safe lifting techniques.

• Traffic laws, ordinances, and safety rules applicable to truck and equipment operation.

Skills and Ability to:

• Operate heavy equipment, snow removal equipment and a variety of power and hand tools.

• Interpret and apply a variety of departmental policies and procedures.

• Apply appropriate decision making within scope of work procedures.

• Work safely and promote safe working conditions.

• Work constructively and cooperatively with others encountered during the normal course of work.

• Perform basic math calculations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent.

• License or Certificates: Must possess and maintain Colorado driver’s license. May be required to obtain a Colorado Commercial ‘B’ Drivers License with air brake endorsement.

• Work Experience: Supervisory experience is required. Must have at least one (1) year of park maintenance experience or related field experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of the job. Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or paper, and reaching with hands and arms.

• Environment: Work is primarily conducted in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, and wet weather conditions. Frequent exposure to dry, dusty, and noisy environments. Occasional exposure to concrete dust, hot asphalt, fumes, solvents, grease and oil.

• Physical: Requires frequent heavy lifting/carrying (50 lbs. and over), pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, crawling and twisting. Must be able to walk on uneven and or slippery surfaces, stand, bend, stoop and sit for extended periods of time. Work requires physical and visual capabilities to operate passenger vehicles, trucks, and motorized equipment. Must be able to use both hands and fingers and perform repetitive motions. Must be able to work around machinery and moving vehicles in traffic environments.

• Vision: The employee must have good close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

• Hearing: The employee must be able to talk and hear in order to communicate information and maintain awareness of the environment. Employee must be able to use a telephone.
