Job Description:
Compensation: The Museum Docent position is a part-time, seasonal (summer) position. The pay range is $15 - $20 per hour.
Job Definition: This position requires excellent customer service, multi-tasking and communication skills. Docents provide a welcoming atmosphere with a sensitivity to our diverse community. They are well versed in programming material, complete assigned duties with accuracy and attention to detail, participate and assist in facilitating programming, lead volunteers, and other duties as needed.

• Perform opening and closing procedures of the offices and exhibition spaces.
• Answer the telephone and welcome visitors.
• Guide tours to visitors of all ages and provide educational historic information.
• Provide high-quality customer service to visitors.
• Maintain and protect the condition of historic artifacts and property.
Supervision Exercised: No supervisory responsibilities.
Independence of Action: Work is performed in accordance with legal requirements, standard practices and methods requiring initiative to complete recurring assignments independently and judgment to determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation.
Communication/Working Relationships: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the city, outside agencies, and the general public in a positive and cooperative manner. Maintain strong working relationships with city staff, department heads, City Administrator, and outside agencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of relevant historical information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
• Ability to work independently and pay close attention to detail.
• Innovative, collaborative, organized, self-motivated.
• Ability to properly operate or use: computer (Google, Microsoft Office software), telephone, copier, calculator, and other office equipment.
• Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints and provide excellent customer service.

• Ability to creatively problem-solve to address vaguely defined issues.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED.
Language Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to respond to employees, customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community. Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills are preferred
