Student Custodial Intern

Florence Jr./Sr. High School

Position Summary: The Student Custodial Intern supports the district custodial and maintenance team in maintaining clean, safe, and well-maintained school facilities. This temporary position provides students or recent graduates with supervised work experience while assisting with custodial and basic facility upkeep tasks.

The position operates under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Head Custodian and may assist at Florence Jr./Sr. High School or other district facilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current high school student, recent graduate, or individual eligible for student internship employment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with custodial and maintenance work.
  • Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with district staff and students.
  • Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and tools, or willingness to be trained.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license may be required depending on assigned duties.
  • Successful completion of all required background screenings in accordance with district policy and Colorado law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the general nature of the work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.

  • Assist custodial staff with cleaning and maintaining school facilities.
  • Perform routine custodial tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and restroom cleaning.
  • Assist with summer cleaning projects such as moving furniture, cleaning classrooms, and preparing facilities for the upcoming school year.
  • Support basic grounds maintenance as assigned.
  • Safely use custodial equipment, tools, and cleaning supplies in accordance with district safety procedures.
  • Follow all workplace safety standards and district policies.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with staff and supervisors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or designee.

 

Work Schedule

  • Up to 9 hours per day, four days per week, during the designated internship or summer work period.
  • Work assignments may occur at Florence Jr./Sr. High School or other district facilities, including Penrose locations.

 

Compensation

Compensation will be determined according to the district-approved student worker or temporary employee pay rate.

This position is considered temporary/seasonal employment and does not create eligibility for continuing employment with the district.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

  • Lift and move equipment and materials
  • Push and pull carts or custodial equipment
  • Stand, walk, bend, and climb as required
  • Perform tasks in indoor and outdoor environments
